The French home dialysis specialist, Physidia, has announced the acquisition of Nordic Medcom, its long‑standing partner and distributor in the Nordic countries (Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark). This transaction marks a significant milestone in Physidia’s international development and opens a new phase focused on expanding access to home hemodialysis therapy across Europe, responding to global trends in renal care.
AURIS Finance’s experts, a Paris‑based advisory firm specializing in mergers and acquisitions, analyze this strategic development in the Medtech sector.
After years of close collaboration, French company Physidia and Swedish company Nordic Medcom are executing a strategic merger. This next step is central to Physidia’s broader European expansion, a market where demand for dialysis solutions continues to grow in line with global forecasts. According to industry analysts, the home dialysis systems market is projected to grow strongly through 2034, driven by rising chronic kidney disease prevalence and patient preference for home treatment options.
Nordic Distributor
Originally a multi‑brand distributor, Nordic Medcom is positioned in the specialized medical devices segment of the Scandinavian market, with specific expertise in transitioning dialysis from clinical centres to patients’ homes. While Sweden remains its historical market, the company is also present in major university hospitals in Denmark and Norway, as well as Finland. The group employs around 15 professionals and generates approximately €6 million in annual revenue.
Specialized Technology
Nordic Medcom now joins Physidia. Founded in 2010 in Angers, France, Physidia developed a portable monitor, the S3, enabling patients to perform daily dialysis at home. This technology aligns with a broader trend toward compact, user‑friendly home dialysis systems that improve clinical outcomes and patient autonomy.
Physidia serves thousands of patients daily and, operating in 18 countries, employs 75 people with total revenues of €30 million, 60 % of which come from international markets. The acquisition allows Physidia to strengthen its presence in Northern Europe and integrate a complementary portfolio of dialysis-related activities and services, including logistics, training, and clinical follow-up.
Financial Support
The transaction was made possible with the support of Columna Capital, which took a stake in Physidia in 2023 with the ambition of supporting the group’s growth and targeting a three‑fold increase in revenue over the next three to five years.
European Expansion
In autumn 2025, Physidia extended beyond France by opening a subsidiary in Germany, a key market recognized for its growth potential in home dialysis adoption and healthcare innovation.
Promising Market Dynamics
The global dialysis market continues to expand, driven by an aging population and the rising prevalence of chronic kidney diseases. Market analyses estimate that the hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis market could reach nearly USD 186 billion by 2030, reflecting strong long‑term growth.
Although conventional in‑centre dialysis remains dominant, patient demand for autonomy and cost‑effective alternatives is expected to accelerate the adoption of home‑based solutions, underpinning growth for innovative medtech players.
Strategic Consolidation
In a capital‑intensive sector where regulatory compliance and technological innovation demand significant investment, consolidation is highly strategic. For Nordic Medcom, the merger with Physidia addresses two key imperatives: consolidating offerings in mature markets and supporting research into new devices. A focused strategy of technological innovation combined with selective mergers can accelerate value creation.
Mats Grenner, head of Nordic Medcom, will remain in his role to ensure operational continuity and maintain strong relationships with Nordic healthcare stakeholders — a common Medtech model that preserves local expertise while scaling through partnership with a larger actor.
