Milexia has acquired UR Group, a European provider of advanced connectivity systems. With this strategic move, the specialist distributor of electronic components strengthens its control over the value chain and expands its product offerings. AURIS Finance, a leading M&A advisory firm, provides insights into this transaction.
A Leader in high-tech distribution
Founded in 1971, Milexia specializes in the sale, installation, training, and maintenance of scientific instrumentation, precision electronic and mechanical systems, and components. The group, which generates €140 million in revenue, has grown significantly through external acquisitions. Between 2018 and 2023, Milexia completed six acquisitions, including industry specialists such as CEL (Composants Électroniques Lyonnais) and Danish distributor Cabcongroup.
European ambitions
Today, Milexia operates in France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Germany, serving key industries such as aerospace, defense, telecommunications, research, and manufacturing. The group supports nearly 2,300 customers, half of which are major corporate accounts, and has embarked on an ambitious growth strategy driven by acquisitions.
Strong financial backing
This aggressive expansion would not have been possible without the support of key financial partners. In 2018, Milexia opened its capital to a consortium of leading investors, including Société Générale Capital Partners, Bpifrance, and Isatis Capital, which joined through a minority LBO to fund both organic and external growth. In 2023, these historical shareholders sold a majority stake to Crédit Mutuel Equity, which became the group’s reference investor, while reinvesting alongside the founders.
Accelerated growth through acquisition
This solid financial foundation enabled Milexia, a European supplier of high-tech electronic components, systems, and scientific instruments, to acquire UR Group. Established in 1996 and headquartered in Milan, UR Group is an international provider of advanced connectivity solutions for IP networks, wireless technologies, satellite communications, and fiber optics.
“By combining our cutting-edge solutions with UR Group’s innovative approach, we are not only expanding our offerings but also redefining possibilities in both established and emerging markets,” stated Giuseppe Bergamaschi, Sales Director of Milexia Italy, during the announcement of the deal.
A booming market
With the rise of 5G, the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence, and Industry 4.0, connectivity systems are facing increasing demand. The global market for sensors and smart technologies is experiencing rapid growth. According to WSTS (World Semiconductor Trade Statistics), the market is projected to grow by 22.5% in 2025, reaching $772.2 billion, with further acceleration expected in 2026 (+26%, reaching $975.5 billion).
A wave of industry consolidation
2025 has seen several major mergers in the connectivity and embedded cybersecurity sectors. Molex announced the acquisition of Smiths Interconnect, a UK-based supplier of high-reliability connectors for aerospace and defense, followed by the integration of AirBorn, acquired in November 2024. Meanwhile, Cadence acquired Secure-IC, strengthening its position in robust embedded security technologies across multiple industries.
