La Française de l’Énergie (FDE) is strengthening its activities in Norway and acquiring Alltec AS, a manufacturer of renewable energy solutions. Experts from AURIS Finance, a merger and acquisition consultancy, provide insight into this new market development.

On 9 April, La Française de l’Énergie announced the acquisition of 100% of Alltec AS for a total sum of €9 million, with 30% paid in cash and 70% in shares of the holding company that controls its Norwegian operations. La Française de l’Énergie has been present in the region since 2024. The acquisition of Alltec AS, a company specialising in the engineering, supply and construction of renewable energy solutions with recognised expertise in biogas, hydrogen and ammonia, strengthens its position. Employing around 50 people, Alltec AS posted a turnover of €9.4 million in 2024 and has a portfolio of qualified projects worth over €100 million. This major acquisition is expected to have an immediate positive impact on the FDE Group’s results.

A Norwegian platform

For FDE, the acquisition of Alltec AS aligns with its international development objectives. The French energy company intends to strengthen its position in the Norwegian renewable energy market. In 2024, La Française de l’Énergie acquired Greenstat, a leading player in the hydrogen and solar energy sectors. All investments made in Norway are expected to contribute €80 million to the group’s annual revenue. FDE is targeting revenue of €175 million by 2030, half of which will be generated by its Norwegian activities.

Shifting towards ecological transition

Founded in 2006, La Française de l’Énergie initially specialised in the exploration and development of gas and coal in Lorraine. The group then evolved towards a multi-energy production model, integrating green electricity, renewable heat, biogas, bio-liquefied natural gas (Bio-LNG), bio-carbon dioxide (Bio-CO₂) and green hydrogen. This shift began in 2020 with the commissioning of France’s largest solar thermal power plant connected to a heating network in Creutzwald. It continued in 2022 with the acquisition of Cryo Pur, a French company that specialises in treating biogas and liquefying it into Bio-LNG and Bio-CO₂. The energy company is now committed to producing energy with a negative carbon footprint. Following the acquisition of Greenstat in 2024, FDE is looking to expand internationally.

Our experts at your service

When it comes to strategic planning, FDE is a textbook example. Having originally specialised in gas and coal exploitation, the energy company has successfully transitioned to green energy. To achieve this, it has established itself as a key player in the green energy sector. Other energy companies have followed suit. One example is the Total group, which changed its name to TotalEnergies in 2021 and is now aiming for carbon neutrality across all its activities. To achieve this, the group is increasing its stake in innovative companies. Further moves could be expected in the coming months. Companies specialising in the deployment of green energy are now being targeted by energy companies. AURIS Finance’s experts are sector-specific. We will support you throughout your merger or divestment process.
