Sepur, France’s long-standing specialist in urban cleaning and waste management, has taken over Samsic. This major acquisition includes 15 contracts spread over three operating sites covering almost all the départements in the Île-de-France region: Yvelines, Hauts-de-Seine, Val-d’Oise, Val-de-Marne, Essonne and Seine-Saint-Denis. In this area, where Sepur was already present, the acquisition of Samsic’s activities represents a turnover of €12 million.
Local roots
Since its foundation in 1965, Sepur has become a major player in the waste collection market of the Paris region, operating on behalf of local authorities. The group employs 3,000 people and possesses a fleet of 1,700 vehicles, predominantly refuse collection vehicles. The acquisition of Samsic’s urban cleaning activities will enable Sepur to consolidate its position in areas where it has already established a presence. In Île-de-France and neighbouring regions, the group serves 1,300 municipalities in 17 départements, catering for more than 10 million inhabitants. Growing rapidly, the group aims to achieve sales of €700 million by 2030, compared with €380 million at the end of 2022. Backed by the Cube Infrastructures Manager fund, which has held 60% of the group’s capital since 2022, Sepur is focused on inorganic growth to expand its operations. In August 2024, Sepur acquired part of the collection activities of éco.Déchets in the Grand Est, Hauts-de-France and Bourgogne-Franche-Comté regions.
A strategic realignment
For Samsic, this sale represents a strategic opportunity to refocus on its core markets. A French leader in services to companies, Samsic is active in the cleaning sector and positioned as a specialist in integrated services for companies in Europe. The group offers more than 150 service lines through its various divisions (human resources, reception, facility management, security and multi-technical maintenance). The group’s revenues total €4 billion, with a workforce of 130,000 people. By divesting its urban cleaning operations in the Île-de-France region, Samsic is strategically shifting its priorities towards other regions in France and internationally. The French market contributes half of the group’s turnover, and Samsic aims to enhance its presence in other parts of the world, including Europe, Africa, the Middle East and the Caribbean.
