At the start of 2025, the agricultural and agri-food cooperative group Eureden achieved a significant milestone by securing €520 million in syndicated financing. The experts at AURIS Finance, a consultancy specialising in mergers and acquisitions, give you their analysis.
€520 million over five years. This is the amount raised in the financing round carried out by Eureden and supported by its long-standing pool of French partner banks, with the addition of a new entrant: the Spanish bank BBVA. The deal is designed to refinance existing debt, support future investment, and cover general operating costs over the next five years.
CSR objective
This new funding is unique in that it is indexed to CSR criteria. As part of the new financing round, there are requirements to reduce greenhouse gases, develop alternatives to plant protection products, and support the installation of young farmers.
A historical player
Eureden, a Breton group, has developed along the lines of regional agricultural cooperatives. The result of the merger between Triskalia and D’Aucy, the cooperative now employs 8,000 people and achieved sales of €3.8 billion in 2024, marking an 11% year-on-year increase. The group operates in several sectors: the collection and processing of agricultural produce; food processing, including vegetables, ready meals, frozen foods, meat and dairy products; and distribution, including garden centres, pet shops and DIY stores. Eureden also owns a large portfolio of brands, such as D’Aucy, Paysan Breton, Cocotine, Jean Nicolas, Aubret, Point Vert and Magasin Vert. Eureden is now one of the leading companies in the agri-food and agricultural processing sectors in France and Europe, with 17,000 farmer members.
European expansion
The group operates in France and the European Union. The arrival of a new financial partner, the Spanish bank BBVA, reflects the group’s desire to attract investors from outside France and raise its international profile. Eureden currently has 40 manufacturing sites across Europe, including several in Spain, Hungary and Germany. The group also runs 200 shops serving member farmers and private customers.
New challenges
The French agri-food sector is currently undergoing a period of profound transformation, characterised by accelerated digitalisation, stringent traceability requirements and the imperative to expedite the environmental transition. The vast majority of French food companies have now adopted digital traceability systems and invested heavily in automation and artificial intelligence. Furthermore, the industry must address the evolving consumer demand for sustainable products. These profound changes are forcing industry players to reconsider their products and production chains.
