The Paris-based Epsa group, which specialises in the financial, environmental and operational performance of companies, has acquired Rennes-based Energiency. Here is an explanation and analysis from the experts at AURIS Finance, a consultancy specialising in mergers and acquisitions.
There’s been another merger in the business consultancy and support sector. Epsa group has acquired Energiency, a company based in Brittany, thereby enhancing its expertise. Energiency, headquartered in Rennes, has developed a unique Software as a Service (SaaS) platform that enables real-time monitoring of industrial energy consumption, facilitating optimised operational efficiency.
Established in 2001, EPSA has evolved into a global company with a workforce of 3,200, including 1,100 in France. It operates in 40 countries and offers support services designed to optimise the financial, environmental and operational performance of companies and public organisations. The company boasts an impressive client base of 5,000 across the globe, generating a turnover of €500 million.
Strengthening a position in the industrial sector
Through the acquisition of Energiency, Epsa is enhancing its capabilities in serving industrial clients. The Brittany-based company, which has 40 employees, has developed a SaaS solution based on artificial intelligence. This innovative solution enables real-time analysis of data from industrial facilities, allowing the identification of opportunities to save energy and reduce CO2 emissions. According to Energiency, this optimisation enables major groups to make significant savings of between 15% and 20%. The group’s client list features prominent names such as L’Oréal, Solvay and Naval Group. It also operates for many key players in the hydraulics industry, including water treatment plants.
Offensive inorganic growth
Over the past two years, Epsa Groupe has embarked on an ambitious growth strategy, successfully completing two additional transactions. At the end of January, the group completed the acquisition of Inventura, a Norwegian purchasing consultancy specialist. This Bergen-based company employs 130 people and generates sales of €16 million. This follows the acquisition of the AB&C group (Netherlands) in 2023. AB&C comprises two main entities: Aeves group (specialising in purchasing) and Boer & Croon (management consultancy). This strategic acquisition has expanded the group’s workforce by over 500 employees and has increased revenue by approximately €150 million.
Structuring the product offering
This strategic acquisition will enable Epsa to structure its offering around four key areas: cost optimisation, through the implementation of solutions designed to reduce industrial companies’ energy costs. Energy performance, with the deployment of advanced analysis tools to identify areas for improvement. Energy management, by helping companies to implement sustainable strategies, and finally decarbonisation, by integrating solutions to reduce carbon footprints and meet regulatory requirements.
