One of the major players in landscape design and maintenance, Idverde, a French group founded nearly 30 years ago, has experienced significant expansion over the past decade. With 3,000 employees in France and 10,000 across Europe, the group has now completed a new acquisition in the Iberian Peninsula through the takeover of El Ejidillo Viveros, a long-established green services provider based in Madrid.
Expansion into Spain
Founded in 1993, El Ejidillo operates two nurseries in Segovia and Granada. A well-established Spanish player, the company is active in the design, development, maintenance, and restoration of landscapes for both public and private clients. By 2025, El Ejidillo had generated revenues of €40 million through projects involving both natural and urban landscapes.
Specialised Expertise
This acquisition is particularly strategic for Idverde. Against a backdrop of increasing climate adaptation requirements, demand for greener infrastructure continues to grow. At the same time, both public and private stakeholders are seeking more water-efficient solutions. By acquiring El Ejidillo, Idverde strengthens its expertise in arboriculture, water management, and climate adaptation. The transaction has been structured as a long-term partnership, with El Ejidillo’s existing owners remaining at the helm of the company.
Pan-European Ambitions
With this acquisition, Idverde further strengthens its European footprint. The group is now present in seven countries: France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and now Spain. El Ejidillo contributes €40 million in revenue, bringing the group’s total turnover to €1.2 billion.
Financial Backing
This transaction was made possible through the support of Core Equity Holdings. The long-term investment company acquired a stake in Idverde in 2018. Since then, the French group has completed around thirty acquisitions, highlighting its strong expansion across Europe.
30 acquisitions since 2018
Among Idverde’s most notable acquisitions are:
- Assist Group (2019), a UK-based company specialising in green space maintenance across شمال-East England and the Midlands.
- Courserant (2019), a French family-owned business specialising in landscaping.
- Malmos (2020), a leading landscaping company in the Danish market.
- Seidenspinner (2021), acquired following the group’s expansion into Germany, specialising in green landscaping and mineral works (paving and stonework).
- SP Paysage, a company specialising in pruning, mechanised mowing, forestry works, and biomass valorisation.
A Sector Undergoing Consolidation
The landscaping services market is currently experiencing accelerated structuring. Historically fragmented, it remains composed of a dense network of local SMEs, often family-owned, with strong regional roots. In this context, major European groups are multiplying external growth operations to consolidate their positions and expand their geographic coverage.
This trend is reinforced by several structural factors: increasing environmental requirements, pressure on water resources, and a growing need for technical expertise in the sustainable management of green spaces. These challenges are driving the emergence of players capable of industrialising practices while maintaining strong operational proximity.
